Above: Cordelia represents the  CRC at the 2012 Conservation Pageant

The CRC actively opposed the proposed hydro dam which would have affected Columbia River Forest Reserve as well as Bladen Nature reserve. The developers bulldozed through several miles of pristine rain forest, plowing right through an ancient Mayan site before community activism halted the project.  Below are links to newspaper articles and the petition we circulated, as well as a the "Damn the Dam" video we made just upriver from our farm with local students in 2011, featuring CRC's very own Cordelia, Zula, and Eugenia, and starring Janelle Rodriguez.

All of the Mayan villages in Toledo are built alongside rivers, which are the life blood of the communities. Swimming and washing in the rivers is a part of traditional Mayan life.

Stopping up free flowing rivers damages the environment and local culture! Support alternative energy solutions that don't come with a huge price tag, to be paid by future generations.
